Started in 1986, Providence Christian Nursery School was founded as a ministry under the nonprofit organization, Providence Ministries, Inc. The nonprofit was established by Ronald and Barbara Christman who worked with the board and operated the preschool for 22 years. However, in 2008, when Ron and Barb decided to step away from the school, the church wanted to keep the ministry active and the preschool became a ministry of Shepherd of the Hill Church.

Peg Merkley was the lead person during this transition. During this time, she was on the board and was instrumental in interim. When she died the family requested donations for a scholarship related to the preschool, this money was the startup for the Peg Merkley Scholarship. It was their vision to support former members of the preschool as they sought to continue their education.

Peg and her husband were long time members of the church and we are forever grateful for the work they did helping to establish our church’s preschool. Along with the Peg Merkley Scholarship we also support their daughter Lauren as one of our missionaries.
